College has so much going on: away from home, no parents, new living arrangements. What makes this so much more complicated is not having good study habits. Poor study habits just makes college life that much more challenging. Going to college opens up a whole slew of new experiences. You got new friends, new town and new challenges. One of these new challenges is knowing how to study properly. This might be the biggest challenge of all.

It’s a common experience for college students to realize that being able to study well really helps make university life successful and enjoyable. It’s also common that being a good studier is perceived as a natural talent or a ninja-like skill.

Neither natural talent nor ninja training explains it. It really comes down to habits.

Freshmen show up at university with what they already have. They bring their grades, experiences and study methods. Because of their abilities, many students developed ways to study that worked fine in high school but are not sufficient for the rigors of university classes.

As these freshman get into the college experience, they realize university classes are at a different level than what high school was. In addition, they find that the study habits they brought from their high school classes won’t work anymore and that improvement is vital in order to perform well academically in college.

A complicating factor to developing better study habits is that there is little breathing room for college students to reboot how they study. The pace and volume of classroom work and preparation is such that changing to better ways of studying is very difficult to squeeze in.

Perhaps putting this situation another will help clarify what I mean. A high school student competitively in high school and does very well in her meets because her of natural ability compared to her opponents.

This superior runner practices, yes, but no more than the girls who finish behind her. Her first place finishes are due to what she was given not from what she does to prepare.

The top notch runner now goes to college to compete and sees that things are different. Now the competition has her talent, too, and her standings begin to fall off from what she is used to knowing.

Our high school runner understands her training needs to improve. She just doesn’t know when she’ll be able to do the improving. She competes weekly which restricts her available time. So she needs to continue her high school level training to keep her results from getting any worse.

A better choice for her would be to get some help to make the change sooner rather than later.

It is a similar situation with getting good study habits. Some outside help can really help. Getting assistance with college level study skills is very similar to our track scenario. It can happen sooner rather than later.

Preschool can dramatically change the quality of adult life. Theres been considerable research in this area and most of the findings had concluded that quality preschool programs affect children positively. The initial years of a child’s life are a crucial development period. Its the time when 75% of your childs brain growth takes place. Kids who are nurtured and stimulated during these years are much more prepared for kindergarten and are more likely to have social skills needed to have a successful kindergarten experience.

Besides producing positive effects on childrens learning and development, high-quality preschool education also has effects on the moral and ethical behavior of kids. Its been seen that children who receive high-quality preschool education are less likely to get involved in crime, substance abuse and other illegal activities than their peers who did not attend any preschool. Thus, preschool education holds an important place when you think about proper and wholesome kids education.

Having said that, It is also important to select a right preschool for your kid. Research suggests that when children are exposed to a learning environment that coincides with their personality, temperament and traits. The reason being children are born with their natural style of interacting with or reacting to people, places, and things. And if they are put in right learning places then the result is increased self-confidence, a positive attitude towards learning, enhanced creativity and a wholesome development.

Besides sending your child to preschool to ensure that he/she has a wholesome development, It is also important for you as a parent to spend devoted time with your kid. Whether its playing in the yard with your kid or while setting the breakfast table and trying to wrangle information about his/her day, or may be telling bed time stories, you must interact with the kids. Also its important for you to participate in different preschool programs so that your kids first educational experience is a happy and effective one. Because a high quality preschool program involves parents, children and teacher where they all contribute, and actively participate to create a learning environment that is full of growth.

Author’s Bio: Roser Brown is a self-published author of many articles on child education. In this article he writes on the crucial role that preschool plays in kids education

When students ignore the importance of study skills because “we’re never going to use this in real life,” I tell them about the time I was programming a video game for fun. Early in college, I was working on a video game where a boulder would fly out of a stick figure’s hand when you hit the space bar (by boulder I mean large circle). The arrow keys pointed the stick figure’s arm in different directions (by arm I mean straight line). The problem was if you pressed any arrow key too long the arm would extend out forever. So I needed to enter in a formula that would tell the computer it was OK to spin the arm around and not OK for the arm to reach out into infinity.

I ended up using the Pythagorean Theorem to solve the problem. (Just in case you don’t remember, it’s the formula used to calculate the legs of a right triangle.) Then it hit me, “Crap, I actually used the Pythagorean Theorem in real life.”

Then another realization hit me, “Writing in ancient PASCAL programming language to make large circles appear out of a straight line on my monitor isn’t real life. It’s probably the furthest thing from it.” Which continues to beg the question, if you really are never going to use a lot of what you learn in school anywhere in your life, ever, why spend all that time with it? Most students spend years on the Pythagorean Theorem. How come? What’s the reason why?

Well, let’s compare all that time a student works with that theorem with lifting weights. When you lift weights, you end up developing your muscles. Though it’s not likely you’re going to have to use those exact weights daily to survive (unless you’re a trainer or physical therapist). In the same way, working with theorems help you develop mental muscles. Though it’s not likely you’re going to have to use those exact theorems daily to survive (unless you’re a math teacher). Instead of working with solid weights to build physical muscle, you are working with abstract ideas to build mental muscle. The classroom is the gym for your mind.

No doubt studying is work just like going to the gym is work. We need strong reasons why to continue doing the work. People who physically work out generally don’t want t be seen as unattractive, fat, and lazy. People who work on their study skills generally don’t want to be seen as stupid, incompetent, and lazy. They don’t want to be the dumbest person in a group. They don’t want to be taken advantage of. They don’t want to be broke. They want others to willingly listen to and follow them. They want others to be attracted to them. They want to be successful in whatever they do. They want to be able to invest their money and make more of it. They understand developing study skills can help them become who they want to be.

Last year, $400 million in tax benefits went unclaimed by parents of school children for education expenses. This year, parents are being urged to keep their receipts for tax time to alleviate the financial burden that back to school expenses place on many parents. The Australian governments Education Tax Refund (ETR) scheme provides up to 50% back on a range of childrens school expenses for both primary and senior school students.

With a need for new school books, textbooks, uniforms and other equipment, the back-to-school period puts on a strain on many parents purse strings. So make sure you understand how you can claim back up to 50% of your childs education expenses come tax time.

In a developing nation like India with over a billion populations, it is important to have facility which provides free education to poor children. Even the economy is growing fast, though sometimes the markets get into bullish mode, but overall its every where declared that India is the future global leader, a thing that makes every Indian feel proud. But if some one cares to look around, then one grows a little skeptic about the development one gets to hear of. You can notice lots of poor people around who are not getting those basic facilities that we usually take for granted. The condition that strikes terror in anyones heart are the poor children of these poor people whose future as well as the present is so dark.

With no financial support or a proper place to live, without the guarantee of three time food, they have to start working at a very early age, when they should have been in some school. Those who are not working or begging for living are left for the day by their parents in the street to fend for themselves. Their parents too dont have an option other than these. Sending to school to receive the primary education is adopted by few parents, but most of them ignore this and put their kids to work some where. Life has not allowed these children to have a choice to choose the way of education. But does that mean those of us who have given the opportunity to help someone turn a blind eye on this problem saying that its not our headache to provide for others who are less fortunate than us. Its the work of the state administration. After all we dream of making this world a better place to live. So, start lending help in achieving that target.

To start with, it would be better if we start concentrating towards providing free education to those who cannot afford it. Setting up education societies would be a very good idea where poor children will be provided with free education and other facilities like medical facilities, sports kits, stationery and clothing kits for free which lead to an all round development of the children.

Whether you are living in India or abroad, your contribution in some good and dedicated charitable organization working for providing free education would bring cheers in the life of lots of little children who would be living a miserable life other wise. Guru Nanak Garib Niwaj Education Society is founded by Baba Amar Singh Ji is working towards this goal.

Schools that have a work-study program make it easier for college students to pay for school with minimal help from their parents or through the use of government loans or private loan institutions. Work-study is usually arranged through the students college so that the individual can earn money while taking classes and earning a degree. It has its advantages and disadvantages. For those using work-study programs in combination with alternative student loans, there is less money to pay off after graduation because less money is borrowed.

Working on campus is filled with opportunities to meet others and make new friends and contacts. It is also a good springboard for both social interaction and future employment.

Work-study students often cannot find work in their majors on campus. Working as a teaching assistant may be an option; however, most students usually wind up working in the library, cafeteria or in administrative offices.

When the campus is closed, students usually get that time off from work. They can visit with family or take a vacation. Students in regular employment during school are often required to work through breaks and vacations to keep their employers happy.

Supervisors are more likely to understand when a worker needs to take time off to study for an exam than an employer not affiliated with the school.

Many positions on campus simply require someone to be a gatekeeper at a checkpoint. While the worker is checking IDs or answering the occasional question at a front desk, there is ample time for studying on the job. This is an easy way to complete homework assignments and brings new meaning to the term “work-study.”

Program participants make it possible for the college to have facilities and offices maintained by young adults. It is less expensive than a regular work force and features people who truly care about their school and environment.

Many school-based programs require their participants to keep a minimum standard grade point average. When working, sometimes studying and enjoying college life become a multi-tasking challenge. The students are given gentle reminders to stay on track for academics.

For students hoping to create a higher-paying future for themselves in a field of work they enjoy, college is an important path to take. Finding a way to pay for it has its challenges. Students in the work-study program usually benefit financially from the experience, but they will need a supplemental means of paying for college.

The Oxford dictionary describes play as: to fulfill, to occupy oneself, to have the ability to perform, to undertake or exercise activities for pleasure.

Not any particular child, but every child in any nation, environment or circumstance needs play. It’s absolutely necessary for children to play, to express themselves social, emotionally and physically. Play allows itself to be an individual creation or to be shared with others, it can be pulled in any direction letting it be turned into anything a child would like, preparing a healthy start to a lifetime of learning. Play is so special that its generosity even includes having fun; in fact that is one of the most important things about it. It has so many benefits that head off in every direction developing all the important ingredients for strong head start in a child life.

It is the adults job to explore the conditions which are best for maximizing the potential benefits of play for children to develop these social skills. One of the ways to do this is to provide and encourage games that are fun, exciting and positive for children. Many social skills are learnt through co-operative activities allowing the child to learn how to confidently form stronger friendships and relationships with siblings and parents.

Activities that involve interacting with others teach children not only about themselves but also about other childrens feeling needs and wants. Since they have learnt to value others’ emotions they develop skills to handle confrontations and conflicts in the future.

It’s also important for a child to develop physical strengths along with the social and emotional. Play has a huge impact in this development for children of varying ages, abilities and interests. Physical play strengthens a child’s fine motor skills as well as gross motor skills. Fine motor skills include such things as eye, mouth, wrist, finger and toe movements, whereas motor skills are the exercise of the larger muscle groups like the arms, legs and torso. This motor play provides critical opportunities for childrens overall strengthening of muscles, nerves and brain stimulation.

Play involves social, emotional, and physical learning. Included in all these types of learning comes cognitive development, an important result of play. Play gives children the opportunity to understand the world, interact with others in social ways and to express and control emotions. Play is a child’s opportunity to practice the skills they are building, and to try out new tasks. This gives them the framework and knowledge to solve more complex problems. All these things are needed for a child to get a healthy start in life. But the most important part of play is having fun. Play and fun are inseparable from each other. Without play, fun doesnt exist and without fun play cant exist.
